Analysis

Ivan Kolgan · 12 Oct 2026

The figure 'up to 40% less food waste' comes from a GS1 Australia case study of Woolworths: a pilot on fresh meat and poultry from August 2019, and by early 2022 2D codes on more than half of the meat range in over 1,000 stores. The figure applies to products that had fully moved to 2D, after two and a half years of work. A chain that starts with a dozen own-label lines should expect slower results.
